Product Review—Susan Lanci Collars and Harnesses
Susan Lanci Product Review-Susan Lanci Designs is a company from San Diego California. All their products are actually made right under their own roof so they can focus on quality and control the process. They specialize in collars and harnesses but do make some super comfy beds and blankets and limited amount of carriers and clothes. In many small dogs a common injury is for the tracheas to get crushed. It can be caused from several things including pulling too hard on a collar. Susan Lanci specifically makes their harnesses to be soft on a dogs neck so they do not choke them when they pull on the leash. They love dogs and love timeless style. They are not the trendiest designer but their pieces are made to last. Susan Lanci uses premium ultrasuede fabric that is imported from Japan and authentic Swarovski crystals. These harnesses come in super plain with a ton of colors to pick from to super blingy in every color imaginable. There is something for everyone’s taste and desires.
We recommend from experience to pick the size smaller instead of bigger if you are on the bubble. For example Hope is 14″ chest so she could wear the small or sm/med. In the step-in harness the sm/med is too big. In the tinkie harness she could wear both. The neck was a little tighter on the small but either would have worked.
Piper has had her collar for 2 years. It has been washed several times and still looks great. The crystals are all still there and as bling-y as it started. There is a little fading in the color but it is still a nice pretty pink.
**We never recommend using a regular collar for walking or pulling a dog. A harness or “walking collar” is always safer and healthier for the dogs.
measurement of girth
A lot of times it seems like we are not quite sure how to fit a harness or collar. A basic rule of thumb is 2 fingers between the dog and the harness or collar. Before you purchase a collar it is important to measure-measure and measure again! 1)MEASURE YOUR DOG’S CHEST GIRTH/Chest. Measure directly behind the front legs at the thickest or biggest part. 2) Measure your dogs neck slightly lower than mid neck but where it is the thickest. 3) Weigh your dog 4) Match up the weight and measurements with the size chart which will vary by designer. 5)Make sure to get a snug measurement for a proper fit.
What makes an ideal fit?
An ideal fit is 2 fingers under the strap (in some cases 1 is fine but 3 is always too loose). The harness should fit snug against the body. IF you are on the tightest setting you should go to the smaller size. It is better to wear a small harness on the last hole than have a loose fit4
What our dogs are wearing…
She is a Chihuahua possibly mixed with Dachshund. Hope just got her first Susan Lanci Collar Crystal Paws Collar. She picked the tiffi blue color since it is her favorite and looks beautiful on her. The collar is a size small and fits her perfect. There is enough room that it does not choke her or inhibit any movement. It just has the paw prints on it (see link below) and is not as bling-y as some of the other collars are. It is a super high quality collar and the color is gorgeous! Her style is just not as flashy as her “sisters” but she still wants to look stylish!
Hopes measurements are: neck 9″ chest 14″ . weight 9.5 lbs
She wears size small collar and size small harness
Lexi has worn Susan Lanci since she came home with my mom. They have a flashier style and love pink. She wears the Giltmore 4 row collar in sapphire pink. She had a harness from Susan Lanci in an xsmall but we ordered it too big. My mom has a tendency to want everything big so it is more comfortable …but she learned thankfully not the hard way that you can’t make that mistake with a harness. She slipped out of it half way before cyrus saw it walking next to her and grabbed her. These harnesses are a bit on the “stretchy side” so measurements are very very important.
Lexi’s measurements are 7″ neck and 10″ chest. She weighs about 3.5 lb . She wears a teacup harness and an xxsmall collar.
Piper is the flashiest of the bunch. She is the bling-y tutu wearing pink clothes dog! She has 2 different collars. The one in the picture is the is the giltmore 3 row collar in sapphire pink. She also has the Sapphire Pink Giltmore 4 Row Collar. Her harness size is the xsmall one and it fits her well.
Pipers measurements are 7.5″ neck and 11″ chest and weighs 4.5 lbs. She wears an xxs in both a harness and collar.
